John 3:16 has become one of the widest used scriptures. So many people use it at many different events. God gave us a very powerful and loving statement in it.
This verse is so powerful because this demonstrates how much love God has for us. I didn’t say had, I said has because He didn’t stop loving us after Jesus rose from the grave. He continues to love us in everything He does. The hiccup a lot of people have is that none of them get past John 3:16 to see the rest of what Jesus iss teaching us.
John 3:16 shows us how much God loves us. He gave his only son up to save us from sin. A lot of people in the world today want to use a lot of things to try and put God in a box. Some think that God left us and doesn’t love us anymore. Or they think that Jesus is some cosmic kill joy who wants to do nothing but condemn us and tell us what we’re doing wrong. If you continue to look past John 3:16 you see that’s not the case. God loves us so much He has given us a way out from our sin. He gave us Jesus Christ.
As John the Baptist said at his first encounter with Jesus, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” Jesus Christ was the ultimate sacrifice we needed to bring us back into right standing with God.
Regardless of what everyone says, Jesus is the one and only way to heaven. There is no other way. We have to go through Jesus Christ to get to the Father. God is our Loving Father and wants us to come to Him. He doesn’t want us to perish in our sin. But the big problem is people don’t believe they are sinners and they sure don’t believe that they need a savior. Well, I’m here to tell you, we are all sinners and we all need Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. We can’t lean on our own understanding. Look at what He said in verse 18 below.
16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
God doesn’t want to condemn you. He has done everything to not have to condemn you, but people always have a choice.
God could make us love Him absolutely but then it wouldn’t be love.
It is easier for people to follow what they want to do, rather than what God wants them to do. Because If we choose to follow God, that means there are standards. Jesus Christ is the Light of the world.
As you know, things are easier to see when everything is all lit up. Nothing can hide when things are well lit. That’s exactly why people don’t want to follow Jesus. People are afraid of what will be exposed in their lives if they follow Jesus.
Let’s face it, there are things in our lives that people don’t want anyone to know about. They think if they just push it down, no one will ever find out. That is why no one wants to come into the light. The problem is when you walk around in the dark you run a great risk of running into something. Jesus is The light of the world and even the smallest amount of light in total darkness gives you a massive amount of sight. But with the light of the world, Jesus Christ, nothing can hide.
Jesus is the truth and when people walk in truth they walk in the light. Jesus wants everyone to walk in truth. He wants everyone to walk in the light. He doesn’t want anyone to run into something because they can’t see. That is exactly what happens. People would rather keep bumping around in life, not being able to see instead of coming to the truth in Jesus Christ so He can lead and guide them.
God loves you and He doesn’t want to see anyone perish. That is exactly why He gave us a way out through Jesus Christ. Jesus took everything we deserved and took it on Himself. He took our penalty so that we didn’t have to. That’s how much He loves us. I challenge you to look at the scriptures above and ask God to speak to you. He’s waiting with His arms open for you to come home. He’s sitting there waiting for you and watching for you, and He’ll never stop or give up looking for you. God is looking for you and He will not stop until He has you.
It is never too late to choose Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior. Not until you take your last breath, then and only then, will it be to late. Don’t wait because the thing about it is we are never guaranteed a second on this earth. Every second we have is a gift form God so don’t wait. Ask Jesus into your heart and start that relationship with Him.
We are going to talk more about that tomorrow, about a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Remember God loves you and so do I
