Hey there from Adam M. Losekamp an Evangelist with Words of Life Evangelism. I am so blessed that you have come to join us today I pray that you are blessed and encouraged by the word that God has laid on my heart, Enjoy.
Battle, fighting, bloodshed, struggle, strife, can anyone tell me what these words are associated with? These are all words associated with war. Now we all know what war is. We’ve read about it, we’ve seen it in movies, we’ve watched it on the news…for some, they have been in the heat of it. And for those who have had to endure it, I say thank you for your service for protecting our nation.
As we begin, I want to look at what war means. War is a conflict carried on by force of arms, as between nations or between parties within a nation; warfare, as by land, sea, or air.
You heard last week that we need to stand in the Gap, that someone has to be willing to stand up and so No, God said No! This couldn’t be more true. It is time to stand up. We are and have been in a war since the beginning of time. You heard me say earlier that some have had to endure the heat of battle. Well I’ve got news for you, we have all had to endure the heat of battle maybe not in the military sense, but we are enduring battles. We are in the fight for our lives every second of every day.
I’m not talking about war where you stand across a field while someone lobs missiles at you…oh no, I’m talking about hand to hand combat. The problem is, we have gotten so relaxed with the way life has twisted around our priorities, that we have dropped our guard. We have let the enemy creep in and tell us what’s acceptable and what’s not. We have allowed Satan to slither his way right into our lives, into our homes, into our children’s lives and warp our families.
Making up seem down and down seem up, where right is wrong and wrong is right and we believe this is okay because society says it’s okay. We are more worried about what someone will think about us or say about us, if we stand up and say no it’s not okay…than being more concerned with what God will think or say about us.
Having fun in life is not a bad thing, working to provide for your family is not a bad thing, having nice things is not a bad thing, but when we come to a point where everything is taking over in place of God and God gets put on the back burner or taken off the stove all together, that is a huge problem.
We are in the fight of our lives, and if we don’t pay attention, we are going to lose the fight without even knowing we lost it. We have a real enemy that is seeking to destroy us in any way that he can. John 10:10 in the NIV says this.
10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
The problem with this enemy is that in many cases, you don’t even realize that you’re under attack, until you’ve been there for a little while then you have to fight and claw your way out, rather than being on alert and fighting back before you get in to that position.
Satan’s main goal is to destroy believers in any way he can. He doesn’t care what you’re doing, as long as you’re not following God because you’re going satan’s way. But if you start going God’s way and doing what God asks you to do, well now he takes notice because you are going against him. You are making a choice to follow the One who loves you. You are choosing to follow the One True God, and satan doesn’t like that one bit. He wants you as far away from God as he can get you.
1Peter 5:8 NIV puts it this way.
8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. He is searching to destroy you and he won’t stop. Every day we are in a war for our lives.
The War is Real, but praise God that He didn’t leave us defenseless.
Ephesians 6:10-12 puts it this way in the Complete Jewish Bible.
10 Finally, grow powerful in union with the Lord, in union with his mighty strength! 11 Use all the armor and weaponry that God provides, so that you will be able to stand against the deceptive tactics of the Adversary. 12 For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers governing this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. As in any war, you have gear to suit up in to protect you and this war is no different.
Ephesians 6:13-18 in the Complete Jewish bible puts it like this.
13 So take up every piece of war equipment God provides; so that when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist; and when the battle is won, you will still be standing. 14 Therefore, stand! Have the belt of truth buckled around your waist,[a] put on righteousness for a breastplate,[b] 15 and wear on your feet the readiness that comes from the Good News of shalom.[c] 16 Always carry the shield of trust, with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the Evil One. 17 And take the helmet of deliverance;[d] along with the sword given by the Spirit, that is, the Word of God; 18 as you pray at all times, with all kinds of prayers and requests, in the Spirit, vigilantly and persistently, for all God’s people.
There are things that you have to do to be ready to go into battle.
You have to have strength. (Ancient warriors armor could weigh up to 100lbs that’s not counting all the marching, all the actual fighting, that is why they needed strength) That is why you need strength…because you may not be carrying 100lbs of armor, but as you go through your day to day life you get tired and worn out, then it’s just easier to let things slide. God didn’t tell us things would be easy…He called for us to stand up.
It’s Important to hold your ground. (to stand firm) Christ is the one who gets us through, your body and soul may feel like jelly sometimes, but that’s when you need to lean on him and not give up. You can’t give up; your life is at stake, your family and your home. You can’t give up and lose focus. We need to have a hardened resolve, but keep a tender spirit. Christ didn’t call us to be doormats or to be a wimp. He called us to spread the gospel and to make disciples of all nations. You have to wake up every day and gear up for the day with the armor of God.
That means that every day you wake up, you know God’s truth and you stand on it regardless of what anyone says. You put on that righteousness that Christ gives us, and we do it in our actions, our thoughts and our attitudes. When was the last time you went to work and didn’t complain? Not an easy task depending on your job, but the folks you work with will see the Righteousness that Christ gives us in you, in your attitude and your actions.
Make your feet ready. Do you know the Gospel? Do you know how to take it to people? This is what “make your feet ready” means. We have a responsibility as believers, to spread the Gospel and reach the sought for Jesus Christ.
Grab your shield of faith. This means assuring confidence in God that He will neutralize attacks that come at you. Be it from temptations, discouragement, and pressure from your friends, your family, whatever is going on, that shield can and will neutralize whatever Satan can throw at you.
Put on your helmet of salvation. This protects against attacks by satan, by giving you assurance of salvation.
Sword of truth Get in the Word every day whether it’s reading listening to it how ever you have to get it, get it. That’s your weapon use it don’t lay down your weapon that’s how you get beat up on. You don’t want to come at someone holding a sword or weapon do you? If you don’t Satan doesn’t want to either. But we sure give him the opportunity to do so because we don’t focus. I’m as guilty as the next person but if you don’t have your weapon why would the enemy of your soul and life stay away? you’ve got nothing to attack with, we overcome by the blood of the lamb and by the word of our testimony.
This is how we defend ourselves in the war around us. I know you may think that I’m being too literal, but you have to understand The War is Real and satan will not stop. But praise God, neither will the Lord if you are a believer. God is going to do everything to keep you, and I’ve got news for you…He’s bigger and greater than satan, and He’s fighting for me and every single one of you, and I’ve got news for you He’s already won.
Are you in the middle of a heavy battle right now and are you fighting without your armor?
Are you going with the crowd, or are you going God’s direction?
Are your priorities lining up with God’s word?
You don’t have to fight alone. God is there fighting for you every day. No matter what is going on, He’s fighting for you. Do you know Jesus as Leader and controller of your life? If you don’t, there is no better time than now to ask Him into your heart and to ask Him to save you and make you righteous.
I always want you to remember God Loves you and so do I.
