Obedience is defined as the act or practice of obeying; dutiful or submissive compliance.

We all know this and we certainly have to do this in our day to day lives. Think about it…if you don’t do your job or follow the rules at your work, what happens?   You get disciplined or you might even lose your job, right?
You are probably thinking, Adam; you told us last week that we work for God, not for our bosses. And that you’re not concerned with their policies and you are concerned with souls.

Yes, that is true. That is what I said and my statement still stands true.  I’m not worried about their policies and I’m concerned more with their souls.

However, never in my statement did I tell you to blatantly just disregard the rules of your work.

God’s word says that we are to be submissive to the authorities.  Scripture tells us to submit ourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority, emperor, or supreme authority, or to the governors who are sent by them to punish those who do wrong and to condemn those who do right.

For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people.

If you want to look that up, it’s in 1 Peter 2:13-18. But it goes on to say for us to live as free people but not to use our freedom for a cover up for evil.

That’s why I said my statement still stands.  We are to be about our Father’s business all of the time and our Father’s business is souls. Being obedient is what God wants from us.  The problem is we all have that one thing that hangs us up and this causes us not to want to be obedient.  God wants us to be totally sold out to Him and to honor and glorify Him in everything that we do. He wants us to do this regardless of what is going on around us, because like you always hear, life get’s messy. That is not up for debate, but when life get’s messy, what are you doing about it? Are you just sitting down right where you are and saying “I’m not moving from this spot.”  You know what happens when you do that?

YOU JUST SAT RIGHT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROBLEM AND BUILT A HOUSE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT!

How is that going to help your problem?   That didn’t work for Israel to sit and whine and complain and it’s not going to work for us. That is why David said…”Oh that I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.”

He didn’t say “Oh that I stop in the middle of the shadow of death”…he said “I walk through it.” God didn’t ask you to settle for mediocre. He said “I came to give them life that they may have it more abundantly.”
Turn with me to Luke 5:4,5,11 this is in the NASB.

4When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” 5Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.”

You know what happens…they obey and they catch so many fish another boat had to come help them and both started to sink from the weight.   Look at verse 11
11When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.

Did you see it there?  Look at verse 5 again, Jesus told them to do something and they questioned.  Now like you have heard me say before, God is not afraid of your questions thankfully, He is not because I would have been dead a long time ago.

They questioned and it wasn’t a long drawn out debate, but they looked at Him and said “We have been fishing all day.”  As almost to say…”Really, I’m the fisherman, I know what I’m doing. I’ve done this my whole life.”  Even though they questioned they still obeyed.  They followed God’s direction and did what He told them to do. And because they followed His direction, they were blessed so much so that the boats began to sink.

When we follow God’s direction, it works. We may not always understand it, but it works because God’s got our back. He takes care of us beyond all we can imagine.  We can’t put blinders on to what God wants us to do, and we can’t be afraid of what He has asked us to do either, because in all things that He asked, He will never walk away from you. You may run from him but never Him from you.

Sure there are times when we are afraid when God asks us to do something, because we’re afraid of the unknown. But that is our finite mind. We know in our own minds that God’s got this, but how do we take it from head knowledge and move it to the heart?   The disciples had times when they were afraid, but think about what they endured throughout their lives.   Head to Matthew 14:22-32 please. This is the NIV.

22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Did you see it? Peter had enough faith to get out and head toward Jesus initially, but then things started to get rough.  Why did Peter sink?

He took his eyes off of Jesus. You see, when you take your eyes off of God, everything starts to fall apart. When you start being scared, or you just don’t want to move in God’s direction of that obedience to which He’s called us to, things start to fall apart. You start to sink.

We all have those moments of doubt, we’re human, but God designed us to trust and obey Him in all things…not just when it’s convenient for us.

“Well you know God, I want to follow you fully, but what you are asking me to do, I just can’t, because of___.” fill in the blank.  Whether it is something from your past that is hindering you, or issues in your family, whatever it is, God can take care of that so you can move forward. He wants to take care of it so you can move forward, if you let him.

This church has been experiencing bits and pieces of revival for a while now but what is stopping us from that full Holy Spirit filled revival? That revival that God wants for all of His children to have, not just Harrison Ave. Assembly, but everyone all over the world.   There are pockets of revival happening all over this land…but I’m praying and believing for the Holy Spirit Filled revival all over this world, before He comes. Because I believe that He wants us all to take a bus full of people with us when the rapture happens.

That is only going to happen when you allow total unhindered access and total submission to God in your life.  He wants to pour His Holy Spirit out, but we’ve got to seek the outpouring…you have to want it.   God wants to have a relationship with you. Jesus is coming soon.

We’re not guaranteed a second on this planet. Every second we have is a gift from the Lord.  I have no Idea what is in every ones heart, but God does. I don’t know everything you need, but God does. I don’t know what has happened to you in the past or maybe happening right now, but God does, and He wants to take care of it for you.
He gave everything to be with you. He gave His life to be with you. He wants to have a relationship with you.  That’s not a difficult task. All He said was believe.

What is keeping you in your boat? Whatever it is, it’s time to let God take care of it.  It’s time to be totally sold out to God and allow Him to move you forward and take you where He needs you. Whatever that is and wherever that is, He’s waiting for you.    Will you get out of the boat and go to Him? Will you give up your security boat and get out and trust that He’ll hold you up and take care of it? Regardless of the waves, the storm, or the issues, God will take care of it…because He wants to will you listen to His direction and give Him everything?

If you ever have anyway that I can pray with you or for you about please get hold of me. If you ever have a question I’m here God welcomes your questions and so do I. There is no such thing as a stupid question all are welcome here shoot me a comment or email or what ever way you can I want to hear from you.

Remember always:  God Loves you and so do I.
