Love your enemies

Hey there from Words of Life Evangelism

Many issues of hatred surround us in the world today. People are being hurt physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. We are at a point in our society that if someone is different than us, we chastise them and degrade them and we break them down and make them feel like garbage.
It’s a hard mind set to break. We have come to a point that if someone hurts us we feel we have to hurt them back, or you have to hurt them first because you are worried they are going to hurt you.

This is not the way God thinks. This is not how He wants us to think either.  Look at how Jesus was, in dealing with the issues of how we are to treat our enemies in…

Luke 6:27-36

27“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you.

32“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Look at all that Jesus said in this, there is so much in these scriptures to think about. Jesus wasn’t saying to get rid of the courts. Because if you were to get rid of the court system, it would result in unbiblical anarchy and that’s a horrible thing. We need law and order in our society. However, we spend so much time and so much energy in anger that it’s turning us away from God.

That is exactly what satan wants. He wants us to take our eyes off of God, so we don’t work on the calling that God has placed on your life. I mean think about this, I have heard it all my life, when someone is wronged the first response is, I’m gonna sue that person or you wait till I get a hold of them. Suing and dragging people into court has become way to common. We make it a spectacle about going to court. This is evident in all the court t.v. shows that are around. I mean people are dragging people to court for very small amounts of money, sometimes the court fees are more than what the person will get back should they win. What good does this do, other than make bad blood between people. There are some instances where courts are very, very useful, and I get that. But they shouldn’t be our first go to.

This is a sad statement I am about to make, but it is true. So many people have been hurt by some Christians because of the way they think or their lifestyle or the way they act. The sad part is when this happens people take that to mean all Christians act alike.

It is a sad fact that this happens, but this does happen and unfortunately it happens way to often. As believers, we need to make sure that we are giving a good witness and that means that we allow God to work in us and through us so that all people will see Him in us, not the other way around.

Yes, there are times where people wrong us. But I have news for you, there were a lot of people that wronged Jesus. And if we are to be as the name christian suggests (little Christ) then we have to allow the Holy Spirit to move in our hearts and our lives so that we can give a good witness to those we encounter. You can love someone and not like what they do. Love doesn’t mean that you like every choice that someone makes, but it does mean that you are there for them. Jesus loves everyone, believers and non-believers. He just wants the non-believers to come to Him and ask Him into their hearts as Lord and savior.

But until they do, if we encounter people that are non-believers and they don’t act the way we do, guess what? We are to pray for them and love them and bless them. Because that is going to show God’s love through us. We are to show God’s love to all people no matter what.

If you are in a place where you have been hurt or burned by someone, don’t write off God. Because He still loves you and He still wants you to come to Him. All you have to do is ask.

I want you to know that I am still praying for you all and what ever your need is, if there is a specific need let me know. If you have questions about salvation, get hold of me. Email me and I’ll help you with the answers. I want you to know that I am here for you and pray for blessings for you.
