When you share the Gospel with people that do not believe in God, one of their go to points on the matter is “If God is real, then why are there starving people in the world?”, or “If God is real, then why do people die young?”…or whatever other objection they can come up with. We think for God to exist, that He has to explain himself to us or that He has to answer to us and if He doesn’t, then people just say “Well, see all this bad stuff is happening and God didn’t explain it to me so because He didn’t, he doesn’t exist.” Read more
John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
We are going to take a turn on our study of who God is for a little bit, because God is leading me a different direction. I said long ago these blogs, videos, and now podcast are as God directs, and wherever God directs, that’s where we are going to go. Read more
Psalm 25:8 (NET Bible)
8 The LORD is both kind and fair; that is why he teaches sinners the right way to live.
We are getting back to our study of Who is God? We have looked at the attributes that are specific to God now we will look at the moral attributes of God.
When we say moral attributes what are we talking about? The word moral is a simple meaning that we don’t need to make it hard. Being moral is relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior. Now that’s the definition but what really is morality to learn that we need to know who God is? Which is exactly what we have been doing over the course of these last episodes, so as we continue each of these episodes and blogs we will be touching on two of God’s moral attributes each time. God’s moral attributes are not much different from our human qualities. The difference is the degree in which God possess these traits. His traits are unmatched by any human. For example God and humans have the capability to love however no human can ever love like God does. The fact that we all have these similar attributes we have to remember that our ability to have these and use them is totally related to us being created in God’s image. So even though we have these same attributes as God we can never match God’s depth and degree of these attributes.
Genesis 1:4 (NIV2011)
4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
God is good. This is a statement that people make all the time but what does this truly mean that God is good?
God made everything and with that everything that God made was good because of the simple fact it came from His very nature. We see this throughout chapter one of Genesis as He is creating everything. We also continue to see this as God is good to his creation. What do I mean by that He is good to his creation. I mean that He provides for his creation. He makes sure that you have what you need, not necessarily what you want but He gives you what you need. In that same breath however we see Him even providing for the people who totally ignore, defy and reject Him. Why would He do a thing like that? The answer to that is simple because God is good and He cares for his creation. That’s exactly what I meant before when I said that we cannot even come close to the degree of God’s moral attributes. In the human mind we see someone who has done wrong to someone else we believe that they don’t deserve any mercy or grace. See that’s the problem with the human standard we measure in what we can see and what we can smell and what we can touch. We don’t look at things from the perspective of God. From the perspective of this is my creation they may not be doing what I want them to and they may be acting totally a fool, but I still love them and I’m still going to give them what they need because I love them.
Romans 5:8 (NIV2011)
8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
With all that being said it brings us to God is love! When we think about God being love we think of love at a human stand point not from God’s view point. God’s love is totally and completely selfless that encompasses the entire world sinful nature and all. When God created the universe and the humans He created us perfect. The problem is we didn’t think that was good enough so we rebelled. With that rebellion came a penalty that we owed to God. So from the beginning of creation after the rebellion God started a mission to pay that penalty for us and He did that through sending His son to pay the bill that was due, so that we didn’t have to. Now looking at this from the perspective of the world this doesn’t make any sense you’re absolutely right it makes no sense. Why would anyone willing die for someone who hates Him and doesn’t want anything to do with Him?
Remember what I said before that we can never reach the depth or degree of God’s attributes. God did this because He loves us, God did this because God is love! People may lay their life down for someone they love. Can those same people say they would do the same action for someone that hated them? Jesus Christ came and laid down His life for everyone He’s not picking and choosing who is willing or not If you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and you repent and turn from your sinful ways you will be saved and why? Because God is love that will never change.
