Why do we doubt when it comes to God? This is not a new thing. People have been doubting God since the beginning of time. We tend to put more trust and belief in perfect strangers just because they have a title behind their name rather than to believe God. This is a hard thing to swallow especially with as much sin and evil that is in the world, but do you know that sin and evil has not increased it is just more publicized now than it was before? I’ve said before that truth is relative and it’s what ever people want it to be. Now, there is only one truth and that’s God’s truth. Jesus Christ is the truth and life. There is no other way for us to make it to the Father except through Jesus Christ! The hard part about our world is there’s a big chunk of people that don’t believe that. Maybe they are on the fence or they have been burned by someone and that makes them doubt God. A lot of times we allow others to dictate what we do and what we believe or we allow the circumstances of life that are surrounding us dictates our path. This is not a new issue. The disciples had this same problem and they walked with Jesus, and saw the miracles He preformed. There are several instances that I can give you where the disciples doubted, but just because they doubted, doesn’t mean the Jesus got rid of them. He didn’t just throw them away He loved them and taught them. In Matthew, we see Jesus sending his disciples to the other side of the sea. When they were about half way across, the disciples saw someone walking and they thought it was a ghost.
Matthew 14:27-31 (NIV2011)
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Why did he sink? Because he doubted what Jesus told him. He took his eyes off of God and when we do that we start to sink. Peter would have been able to walk out to Jesus and walk the rest of the way across the water if it wasn’t for his doubt. I know life is messy. I know that things get rough and there are times that there is more month than money. Or, maybe you’ve got the bad diagnosis of cancer or you are facing other big problems. It’s very easy for us to stand and worry rather than believe because we can see the problem, but that’s where we need to trust and believe all the more. I’m not saying that problems aren’t important, but do we really believe that the Almighty God, the one that said Let it Be to the universe and it was?
Do we honestly believe that if He did all of that, that He can’t take care of our money issues or health issues or what ever issues it is? Where is our faith in God?
Why do we doubt? Why do we allow people or our circumstances to dictate when we trust and believe God? If we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ then He will get us through. There might be bumps, but with Him we can weather the storm and make it through If you’ll trust him and believe.
Do you believe?
